Ronald D. Stall, professor focusing his work on AIDS and behavioral research, talks about the behavior changes within the homosexual community in the Castro District which had one of the highest HIV prevalences in North America in 1988.

Two interviews with Dr Mervyn Silverman, from 1988 and 2008. He explains the San Francisco model, how it began and what others can learn from it.

Dr Selma Dritz tells the story of how the AIDS epidemic started in Los Angeles and San Francisco in the early 80's and how AIDS was connected to the gay liberation movement. She also talks about the government and community responses at that time.

Helene Gayle is an AIDS expert who has been working in many different initiatives in the US, among them the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). She also works in President Obama's advisory group on HIV/AIDS. Here she talks about understanding and changing behaviors.

This production was made as the opening film for the IV International AIDS Conference in Stockholm in June 1988. It gives a broad representation of the global AIDS situation in the late 1980's, and has a particular focus on social structures, poverty and stigma.

Dr Robert Gallo is interviewed in the laboratory about the HIV virus and his ongoing work. He also talks with his team and discusses the question of international collaboration with Lars Olof Kallings. He answers questions about HIV and AIDS, drugs and promiscuity.
